Through CSR Projects of the Corporates
In order to connect with different organisation carrying out CSR activities, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) organised one day CSR conclave on Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities through CSR Projects of the Corporates on 16th April, 2015 at SCOPE convention centre, New Delhi.
Shri D. R. Sarin, CMD, ALIMCO formally welcomed the guests on the dais & participants. In his welcome speech he informed about the activities and plans of ALIMCO wherein he mentioned that, ALIMCO has not only restricted its activities in manufacturing and distribution of assistive devices under government schemes but has plans to diversify its activities as a CSR implementation partner, which can best be taken up as CSR Projects by the Corporate Sector.
Chief Guest of the event Shri Lov Verma, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment delivered the key note address to the gathering that includes CSR/HR heads from different organisation and NGOs. Shri Verma emphasised that persons with disabilities needs our empathy and not pity, he further informed that categorisation of disability has been increased from 7 to 19 and thus it will require a large amount of financial assistance for providing the implements and rehabilitation aids to the needy differently abled persons. He educated the gathering about the scholarship scheme run by the department for the Persons with Disabilities going abroad. He applauded the concept of CSR Conclave organised by ALIMCO and appeal to all the present organisations to come forward and utilise their CSR obligation for the empowerment of PWDs.
Shri Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment assured about cost and quality of products manufactured by ALIMCO. He shared about the high end products which can be distributed under CSR Projects like Motorized Tricycle, Joystick operated wheelchair for orthopedically impaired and Mobile Phone, Tablet, Smart cane for visually impaired persons. He even suggested that Transfer of Technology for manufacturing high end rehabilitation aids and assistive devices can also be taken up under CSR Projects.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kiran Puri, Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment discussed about the evolution of CSR concept in India and explained its financial aspect in the present scenario.
After tea session was address by Shri Mukesh Jain, Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment wherein he shared the new programmes are being carried out by Ministry like “Accessible India Campaign”, “Rahagiri”, Unique ID for PwDs and skill training voucher scheme for PWDs.
A presentation was made by Lt. Col P.K Dubey, GM (Marketing), ALIMCO explaining fine details about modus operandi adapted by ALIMCO in implementing the CSR projects undertaken by ALIMCO. Assuring the quality service he urged the delegates present to join hand with ALIMCO to provide rehabilitation aids and assistive devices to differently abled persons under their CSR initiative. During the event a short film on ALIMCO was also screened. The delegates of various organisation participated in the CSR conclave were honoured with mementos for their effort towards CSR.
During the conclave an interactive panel discussion was held on the “CSR Projects in Disability Sectors” moderated by Shri Ranjan Mahapatra, Editor-in-chief, CSR vision magazine. Ms. Kiran Puri, JS &FA, MoSJE, Shri D. R. Sarin, CMD, ALIMCO, Ms. Taruna Gupta, AGM (CP/CSR) REC, Ms. Anita Dhar Kaul, GGM, RITES and Ms. Vinita Rani, DGM, HUDCO were present as the panellist and each of them shared their view. The panellist also shared their experiences in conducting camps with ALIMCO in the past and also answered various questions posed by other delegates and appreciated the effort made by ALIMCO under CSR.
