Keeping in view the importance of significantly growing rail sector in India and the nearby markets, JSPL has pioneered manufacturing of 121-meter long track rails and a facility to factory weld these rails in welded lengths of up to 480 meter. The world’s longest track rails are a testimony to JSPL’s manufacturing capabilities where continuous innovation is a practice rather than an exception. Long rails from JSPL help in achieving a drastic reduction in the welded joints, providing enhanced safety, cost reduction and travel comfort. The company’s products are subjected to stringent quality norms and therefore match all international standards.
JSPL is also a preferred supplier for crane rails which find widespread usage in electric overhead traveling (EOT) cranes as well as for gantry crane operations. The manufacturing plant is equipped with state-of- the-art facilities that aid continuous on-line inspection and quality control, helping to adhere to specifications laid down by the Indian Railways and other international organizations.
Head Hardened Rails
JSPL has pioneered the production of head hardened rails in India which are typically used in metro rail projects and high speed freight corridors. Head hardening technology entails a special heat treatment process which requires precise temperature control to achieve nearly 50 per cent higher hardness as compared to a normal rail.
Parallel Flange Beams and Columns
JSPL has pioneered the production of medium and heavy hot rolled parallel flange beams and column sections in India. These sections are cost-effective through savings in steel consumption and provide ultimate design flexibility to the structural designers.
The company has collaborated with JFE Engineering Corporation, Japan (formerly known as NKK Corporation), to introduce this innovative product in India. It leads technical innovation and advancement by offering H-beams that are unmatched in quality, performance and cost effectiveness.
Manufactured through the universal rolling method, these beams have standard nominal depth, with different flange and web thicknesses. This helps customers to choose from a variety of options in terms of unit weights and sectional properties. In fact, JSPL’s beams are the most sought after by structural engineers, architects and construction companies globally.
Plates and Coils: JSPL is equipped with India’s first state-of-the-art plate mill that started producing plates and coils of 5 meter and 3 meter width respectively, for the first time in the private sector.
The plate-cum-coil mill (steckle mill) of 1 MTPA capacity located at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh produces plates ranging from 8 mm to 120 mm in thickness in widths of 1500 mm to 3500 mm and coils in thickness range of 8 mm to 25 mm in widths of 1500 mm to 2500 mm.
The mill is equipped with walking beam type of reheating furnace where slabs are re-heated at a temperature of 1250 degree celsius and rolled in a mill with a 2 hi-reversing type roughing stand and a 4 hi-reversing type finishing stand. To ensure excellent surface quality, high-pressure de-scalers are provided at the entry and exit points.
An auto level 2 widths and thickness controlling system coupled with heavy leveler assures close dimensional tolerances and an increased level of flatness control. Right from the slab charging and plate production to the conclusive stage, fully equipped inspection facilities are in place.
Angles and Channels
Continuing its endeavour to provide a complete product basket and an enhanced structural section range to its customers, the company has commissioned a state-of-the-art 0.6 MTPA capacity medium and light structural mill (MLSM) at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.
Jindal Panther TMT Rebars: The company produces TMT rebars with latest on-line high yield quenching and self-tempering (HYQST) technology. The modern mill equipped with morgan enhanced temperature control system (METS) produces TMT rebars in 6mm to 40 mm diameter suitable for high strength applications.
The production of TMT rebars involves a combination of plastic deformation of steel in austenitic stage followed by quenching and further tempering. The process controls at each critical operation ensure uniform properties in each rebar and provides the TMT rebars with a soft ferrite and pearlite fine-grained core, a strong and tough tempered martensite layer imparting it with high ductility as well as strength thus making it ideal for high rises, dams, bridges, individual houses and any critical structures where high yield strength is required without compromising on the elongation properties.
In line with the company’s philosophy to expand its product range to offer a complete product basket to the customer, JSPL now also offers wire rods in 5.2 mm to 22 mm diameters from its first unit at the proposed 6 MTPA capacity integrated steel plant at Patratu, Jharkhand.
The 0.6 MTPA capacity wire rod mill at Patratu is equipped with the latest technology from Morgan Construction Company, USA (now known as Siemens).

The Speedfloor is a lightweight suspended concrete floor system that is quick and easy to install. An extensive range of joist depths and topping thicknesses that satisfies loading and fire requirements, offers contractors and end users an efficient and cost-effective suspended concrete floor.
The company’s steel making facility at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh has a capacity to produce 3 MTPA of crude steel and a similar quantity of semi-finished steel which is primarily used for captive use at its 0.75 MTPA capacity rail and universal beam mill (RUBM), 1 MTPA capacity plate and coil mill and 0.6 MTPA capacity medium and light structural mill (MLSM).

Their focus areas comprise women empowerment, skill development, health and nutrition, sanitation, education and social infrastructure creation. The interventions have benefited over 10 lakh individuals in the states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand.

At Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), CSR is integral to its business processes and operations, and the Company drives holistic community initiatives to help address some of the persistent social challenges in their alms of education, healthcare, skill development and empowerment of women. JSPL aligns its programmes with the Government and other developmental agencies with an objective of bringing about a radical transformation in the lives of the communities and integrating them into the mainstream development process of the country.
JSPL’s approach is to build social capital in the community by facilitating social investments based on the partnership and community ownership mode. The Company promotes the concept of ‘Leadership with trust’ working with local communities and other stakeholders for ensuring continuous and smooth operations. In order to further cement this partnership, between civil society, government and business, JSPL pursue a responsible collaboration mode with regard to the implementation of social development models for building a synergetic partnership.
JSPL has been consciously operating in a framework of Triple bottom line (TBL) and therefore has developed an operating system which is compatible to the environmental as well as to the community needs. JSPL’s CSR activities can be clubbed into five broad areas: Community Healthcare, Community Education, Training & Skill Development, Need-Based Infrastructure development & Sports, Art & Culture. Additionally, JSPL works on integrating business values to principles in sustainability with high levels of compliance, ethics and ensuring academic rig our in its CSR endeavors.
1. COMMUNITY HEALTH, WATER & SANITATION
Kishori Express is a unique initiative to tackle the prevalent occurrence of Anaemia amongst adolescent girls. The Anaemia control programme through Kishori Express (a customised vehicle for anaemia testing through haemometer, counseling, awareness& life-skill education) covered 15832 Adolescent girls in 400 AWCs, 110 High school & ME schools in 2 blocks (Banarpal&Chendipada). There has been 94% reduction in severe anaemic cases to moderate cases & 35% reduction from moderate anaemic cases to normal cases from the covered beneficiaries.
KISHORI EXPRESS COVERAGE
PRIMARY HEALTHCARE FOR RURAL COMMUNITY- PROJECT VATSALYA
Vatsalaya Program, the flagship healthcare project is being implemented in 38 villages Raigarh, Chhattisgarh since October 2010. The objective of the project is to control MMR & IMR and thereby ensure safe motherhood and early childcare. Based on the specific needs of the community, the health programme is designed and implemented in close coordination with Government, health departments and local panchayats in support of the key community stakeholders, which is led on the ground by a trained and motivated group of women volunteers called Swasthaya Sangini or Village Health Volunteers. These volunteers work as the interface between the public health system and the community, in coordination with the Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANMs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to ensure ante- and post-natal care among pregnant women and mothers.
Reduction in maternal and child mortality is one of the vital objectives of Vatsalaya program. The graphical representation below shows the trends of the changes in each of the focussed activities which overall leads to attaining the end results of Safe Motherhood and child birth.
General Healthcare & Sanitation Services
JSPL undertakes various healthcare initiatives in and around its operations across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh &Odisha through General Health Camps, Multi-Specialty Health Camps, Blood Donation camps, Need-based referral support to patients, Support of Emergency Ambulance Services , HIV/AIDS awareness & screening as per NACO guidelines, Awareness camps for vector-borne diseases like Malaria in the surrounding villages. Further, three units of low-cost sanitary napkins, run as micro enterprises by the women in SHG are operational in the states of Chattisgarh&Odisha helping to create awareness on menstrual health and personal hygiene among adolescent girls and rural women.
Drinking water has been provided across location to 1138315 beneficiaries through maintenance of hand pumps, pipeline, bore-well construction, overhead tank construction, chilled drinking water through mobile van, drinking water supply during summer through water tankers to water-scarce areas.
HIV & AIDS through ICTC(integrated counseling & testing centre) & ELM(Employer Led Model)- 93208 migrant labour, employees, truckers and villagers counseled during the year.
E-Health centers & Mobile health units- patient footfall in e-health centers & MHUs have been 55123 at Barbil, Jeraldaburu, Patratu, Raigarh during the year.
Entrepreneurship Development/Women Empowerment / Natural Resource Management
Various CSR interventions focused on agro-based value addition and skill-based non-farm micro enterprises have been undertaken in the surrounding villages of our operations. Capacity development programmes of the rural women, farmers/artisans in Self Help Groups/farmers clubs on income generating activities have helped them take up various trades that have helped them earn and increase their income or supplement their family income.
ECO-SPA, a micro-enterprise manufactures herbal care products from locally grown fruits and vegetables. Similarly Chaiti (food processing unit), Sugandhi (Incense stick making with buyback arrangements), recyclable paper making, commercial mushroom cultivation, terracotta manufacturing and other livelihood initiatives are undertaken to enhance the supplementary income of family. So far, JSPL has trained 980 women members of Self Help Groups who are into Mushroom Cultivation, Papad making, tailoring, stitching, low cost sanitary napkin, zardozi, recycle paper making, etc. 247 Farmers have been trained on multi cropping and scientific methods of cropping that gave them good yields like SRI, vegetables, sweet corn, terracotta, lentils, other cash crops. Through integrated watershed management project in collaboration with NABARD at Angul, soil conservation & recharging of the ground water leads to enhancing the agricultural production and productivity on a sustainable basis besides providing livelihood opportunities to 2000 rural families in a catchment area of 3500 ha.
2. COMMUNITY EDUCATION, TRAINING & SKILL BUILDING
With a mission to impart quality mass education to the community, JSPL have initiated several holistic measures to achieve 100% enrolment, zero drop-outs and 100% pass out rate of the children living in the vicinity of their operating locations. With this vision, JSPL Foundation provides quality pre-school education along with supplementary nutrition meal to underprivileged and vulnerable children of tribal families, factory workers and displaced families through its 5 Balwadi’s/ Rural Play Schools namely Aarambh, Prarambh in Angul district & Little Angels, and Balwadi in Raigarh district, catering to over 191 children. Besides, an Anganwadi Centre has been constructed at Pitabali, Chendipada block of Angul to facilitating pre-schooling for 30 children.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION
JSPL recognizes education as one of the building blocks of the nation and considers it as a major priority area. The Company aims to nurture young minds and educate them so that they contribute to the nation’s development. The O.P. Jindal Group of Schools along with the vernacular medium schools such as DAV Savitri Jindal high School at Angul strives to impart Quality Education. The O.P. Jindal Schools in Chattisgarh, Jharkhand & Odisha imparted education to more than 10,000 students in each academic year. 113 Community teachers have been provided to schools to improve PTR (Pupil teacher ratio) and subject knowledge of the students at Angul, Tensa, Raigarh&Jereladaburu. Infrastructure facilities such as renovating/construction of school buildings, toilets, drinking water facility, have been extended to schools to improve the quality of education. OP Jindal Scholarship is being provided to 689 eligible students on merit cum means basis to further their higher education/continuation of studies at Angul, Patratu & Raigarh.
3. SKILL BUILDING -MAKING INDIA EMPLOYABLE
In order to augment the employability of the rural youth through induction of industry appropriate skill, OP Jindal Community College (OPJCC) imparts certified skills to the youths to acquire the skill for employment in industries / entrepreneurs or to become self-employed. OPJCC completed its sixth year of operation in 2016-17 with two campuses in Odisha, one in Chhattisgarh, and two in Jharkhand & has partnered with the Govt of India and the State Govts for the ‘Skilling India’ programme with the objective of improving the employability of the rural youths on a sustainable basis.
OPJCC is affiliated with the National Council of Vocation Training and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana for running customized trade courses to further enrich the National Skill Pool with the pass out from OPJCC. OPJCC won several prestigious awards like ASSOCHAM India award as Best Institute Women’s Skill Development. From national Training-of-Trainers programmes to adding hundreds of NCVT, PMKVY, and MES students annually to the national skilled worker’s pool, OPJCC is taking India ahead in global quality skills development with a purpose.
PROJECT: ASHA – THE HOPE
Asha – The Hope, a Vocational and Rehabilitation center, has been functioning as a CSR initiative of JSPL, since August 2009, dedicated towards rehabilitation, empowerment & sense of belongingness of persons with disabilities, especially those with in developmental age group in Patrapali village in Raigarh District of Chattisgarh. Since then nearly 2407 children have been provided with various rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy for mobility improvement, special education to mentally retarded children for cognitive, social and psychological development, special education for speech and hearing impaired children and creating skill up-gradation opportunities for them.
The project was implemented by adopting multipronged strategy such as direct provisioning of services through ASHA the Hope center, leveraging technical expertise available with Govt., NGOs and autonomous institutions and convergence with Govt. schemes. Collaborations were strengthened with National and international agencies like Motivation India and Mobility India to provide prosthetics and orthotics, advanced wheel chair and tricycles to the beneficiaries.
4. NEED BASED INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
With the objective of improving the quality of life in the periphery villages, various community linked infrastructure have been developed in our area of operation; a1235 m road has been constructed in 4 villages, renovation of schools have been done, additional classrooms at schools, construction of AWC, renovations of water tanks, pipeline repairs/laying, community centre, solar lighting facilities, platform for hand pumps for drinking water facility, cremation shed, reaching out to 13235 villagers across locations.
5. SPORTS, ART & CULTURE
JSPL has nurtured budding young sports talents in sports; Around 270 sportsperson have been nurtured in various sports like football, kabaddi, kickboxing, hockey who have represented JSPL not only at district level, but at State and National level bringing laurels for the company.
Wushu Players from Barbil bagged the Champions Trophy in 24thWushuOdisha State Championship-2016 by winning : Gold-23, Silver-13 & Bronze-16 (52 Medals out of 54 participants)
3 players from Barbil participated and bagged Gold Medal in the National kick boxing
10 Kabbadi players from Raigarh represented Raigarh District in 16thChattisgarh State level Sub-Junior Kabbaddi tournament organized at Korba; 5 players have been selected for National Level tournament
4 Players from senior team have been selected for prestigious tournament namely CG Kabaddi Premier League being organized by C.G. Olympic Amateur Kabaddi association. Besides this achievement, one team has been branded as JSPL Foundation team in this tournament.
JSPL is an ardent supporter of sports and sportsmanship. The Jindal Panther Polo team has many laurels to its credit and won the National Polo Championship, 2016. Over the years, JSPL have supported promising sports persons and facilitated their holistic development, training, livelihood support & employment opportunities. At JSPL, there is special emphasis on Inclusivity and supporting disabled individuals in sports activities. JSPL has employed paralympic arm wrestling champion ShrimantJha. He had done us proud and brought many laurels to our great nation. He recently secured Bronze Medal in 39th World Para-Arm Wrestling Championship (2017), held in Hungary.

JSPL Foundation initiated the ‘SwayamsiddhSamman’ in 2015 to, reward the network of social innovators and change makers at the grass-root level in India. The award was instituted to honour the unsung heroes who overcame adversities in their lives to create their own unique identity, displaying exemplary courage, commitment, and dedication towards their cause. The ‘SwayamsiddhSamman’ has so far been conferred upon more than 275 grass root action leaders, both at State and National level.

Objective of Rashtriya Swayamsiddh Samman
Rashtriya Swayamsiddh Samman aims to identify, reward and nurture the network of social innovators and change makers at the grass-root level in India.
The awards are conferred across 10 categories viz. Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship &Livelihood, Education, Agriculture & Rural Development, Public Service, Sports, Health, Innovation & Technology and Environment to honour change makers & social innovators from the grass roots who have been able to overcome their hardships and emerge winners and continue to be “Ambassadors of Change” in their respective fields. The selection of the Awardees from all across India is done through a robust process of jury meetings at regional and national levels.The selected entries from the regions are further evaluated by the National Jury that selects Individuals or Organizations who through their exemplary courage and commitment have brought about a meaningful change in the lives of people around us.In addition to the National Level Award, the SwayamsiddhShri’s Individuals & Organizations from across India, receive an honorarium of rupees One Lakh each for their exemplary work in the identified categories.
