Lowe’s India had announced that it donated INR 6lakhs to Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled in 2017-18 as part of its ongoing commitment to serving communities in India. Since its inception in 2014 in India, Lowe’s India has extensively engaged with communities and will be announcing new projects with other community partners in the coming months.
Lowe’s India has donated INR 6 Lakhs to Samarthanam Trust for the disabled to support 100 disabled youth across their three centers towards procuring digital tablets. Samarthanam Trust’s Learning Resource Center has currently been functioning in HSR layout since 2007 and each center trains over 55-60 candidates (including visually and other disabled candidates) on a quarterly basis to be optimally functional in their work places. Most of these youths who are trained at the center do not have access to mobile technology because of their financial status and have never handled a smartphone in their lives. As a result, they miss out on many basic facilities that are available on mobile devices, and which have the potential to make life easier, such as paying bills, shopping, or searching for a job. Being digitally and technically independent by using the tablets will help boost their self-confidence, help to improve patience and perseverance, enable and nurture forward thinking and strategic planning, leadership and socialization, and provide for a better mental and creative prowess.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. James Brandt, Managing Director Lowe’s India said, "Lowe’s India has always believed in giving back to the communities around us through our social responsibility initiatives in focus areas of housing, education and environment. We are happy to continue our association with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and it is in line with our vision to build skills for self-reliance as a new aid for development in digital education."
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mahantesh, Director – Samarthanam Trust for The Disabled said, "We are very happy that a global organisation such as Lowe’s India has chosen to associate with us on numerous occasions in the past. This time the donation of 60 tablets will enable our disabled to develop skills that will give them hands-on experience in the recent digitally revolutionised market."
